From the President's Desk

The RARA meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8,
2005 will be in the IMC Boardroom at the Northwest
corner of the second floor. Enter via the IMAX
entrance and the Cashier staff will direct you.
The program for this month'smeeting will be the
organization of Field Day.

Well, I'm back and I'm well.

Bruce Rattray, VE5RC/VE5QRP, has been busy organizing
our Field Day.  He has been working very hard. But
now is the time that the "rubber meets the
road".  For us to have a successful Field Day in
Wascana Park, we will need  a lot of participation.
You can help us succeed. The program for this
month's meeting will be the organization of Field
Day. Bruce is going to establish teams for  various
tasks, lay out the basic schedule, and establish
the scale of the operation (number of stations, etc.)
Come to the meeting to help us succeed.  If you can't
come to the meeting, send Bruce an e-mail showing
how you wish to contribute.  I want us to have fun
at Field Day and I want us to impress the public,
but nothing will spoil our day faster than if one
of our guests or one of us needs an ambulance ride, or
has any body damage. We must be on our guard at this
event to recognize hazards, and to take measures
to manage these hazards.  We must find safe
ways to do all our tasks, creating absolutely no
danger to guests or passers-by. I see set up and
take down as particularly hazardous times, but
our safe thinking should extend right through the
event.  I foresee a safe and successful event.

Going on to other club events, we will have a grass-
cutting bee at Burnside school, next Saturday, June
11, 2005, weather permitting, after our
traditional breakfast. We will target a 9:30
a.m. start.

We are also planning a Burnside school general
cleanup, repair and long term maintenance bee on
Wednesday, July 18, again starting about 9:30.  We
will make progress on some long needed tasks,
immediate needs include:
* fixing shingles on roof
* scraping or pressure washing walls
* fixing windows
* removing clutter around building and mowing to
allow snakes and hawks to
see the mice crossing

The SARL has awarded RARA the 2006 Saskatchewan
Hamfest.  Derek, VE5SD, the SARL President reminded
us, "Today, more than ever it is imperative that we
support the various clubs and associations who host
different events like Hamfests and Flea Markets."
I hope you will consider attending the
Saskatoon Centennial Hamfest this July, unfortunately,
I have committed myself to another event at that time.

   JAPANESE LICENCE CHANGES

Since Japan was the first country to introduce a No-Code HF licence over
40 years ago most people had been expecting them to abolish the
requirement instead they are keeping a 5 WPM test for First and
Second class licences.
