PRESIDENTS REPORT
The amateur radio school is now well under way. The instruction is very
professional and very well received. Allan VE5LAT has used his
knowledge of teaching to structure the format of the teaching plan, and
the instructors have used their knowledge of amateur radio and explain
the theory and demonstrate with actual components. All students are
encouraged to use the Industry Canada Test Generator a couple of times
per week. This allows them to get used to the style of questions that
will be put to them in the final exam.
By the time you read this the Fall Flea Market will be over. Thanks to
Bart VE5CPU for the coordination of this event. Thanks goes out to
Allan VE5LAT for the use of a table and picking up the club coffee
supplies. Thanks to Bruce VE5RC for the use of table and volunteering
time. Thanks to all other volunteers that helped put on this program.
Thank you to the Flea Suppliers. Without the Fleas we would not have a
market. Hopefully you found a project or some sort of bargain to take
home. Good to see and meet with some Amateurs from other parts of the
province.
October 21, 2006 Malcolm VE5ZG and Jim VE5CS and Darrell
VE5SX participated in Jamboree on the air with Regina 83rd Scout at the
Scout Head Quarters on Broadway Avenue in Regina. About a dozen scouts
took turns with 20mt and 2mt IRLP contacts. The scouts really enjoyed
the experience and went away with dreams about becoming amateur radio
operators one day. Thanks to Terry VE5TLW for Supplying the ARES truck
and the use of the new Radio.
At our next meeting we will not have a presentation, We will be having
a round table discussion on a topic. Topic - What brought you into ham
radio and what was the reason you picked your Callsign? Second topic
will be Remote Base. Would this be useful for our club and club room
facilities? I believe that we will have good coffee and delicious
cookies for this meeting, the discussion will be enlightening. Come out
and join in the fellowship.
One other Date to keep open is Wednesday December 13, 2006 This will be
our Christmas Dinner. Thanks to Keith VE5AFK, he has offered to
organize this at Classic Buffet. Next Month the times and price will be
published.

PUBLIC SERVICE EVENTS
November 12 is the date of the Santa Parade. Once again I am looking
for volunteers for this event. We require about 14-16 hams for this.
Let me know if you can help out.
Santa Parade - Sunday Nov 12 - 12:00 noon - 2:30 pm
- on station by 10:30 am
Thanks,
Bill EE
FALL FLEA MARKET
Another successful Flea Market was held Nov. 4th with approximately 80
hams attending from all over southern Saskatchewan. Brian, VE5BJM was
the lucky winner of the 50-50 draw. Thanks go to Bart, VE5CPU for
organizing the event as well as to VE5s MQ, LAT, RC and SX for their
assistance.
30 METRE PROPOGATION BEACON
A Canadian 30 Metre propagation beacon is now on the air
The frequency is 10132.0 kHz
Call : VE3TO/B
Operation : Continuous while attended but Monday to Friday only (0000
UTC Monday to 2400 Friday) Output power : 5 W at present (planning to
increase to 10 Watts a later time)
CORRECTION
In a previous Guywire, mention was made of a repeater on
147.30 mHz. The frequency pair of 147.30 + is allocated to Sask. EMO
however their repeater has not yet been activated. The repeater that
was heard previously was probably VE5VRA which was operating on 147.295
+ mHz. That frequency is non-standard and not co-ordinated with the
Saskatchewan frequency bandplan.
NEW TIRE PRESSURE MEASURING SYSTEM IS EMI PRONE
As if BPL was not enough for hams to worry about, now comes word of a
new vehicle tire pressure monitoring system on luxury cards in Europe
and the United States that is far from interference proof. The system
operates in the 70 centimeter ham band using a frequency of 433.92 MHz
to communicate between the tires and a monitor receiver mounted in the
dashboard.
Recent tests conducted by the Korean Amateur Radio League, found that
this system is at the mercy of radio frequency interference ingress.
K-A-R-L noted that the system is seriously affected by any amateur
station transmitting on or near the frequency at close range. The
transmitter does not even have to be mounted in the vehicle for the
interference to occurr.
Oh yes. 433.92 MHz is that this same frequency is also under
consideration worldwide for remote keyless vehicle entry systems. It is
already being used for radio frequency identification tags on some
shipping containers now traveling across the globe.
