FIELD DAY - JUNE 24/25 BURNSIDE SCHOOL

DO YOU KNOW THE WAY TO BURNSIDE?

Take Highway 11 to Lumsden, then Highway 20 to Craven.
At Craven turn into town and go north on Main Street where
you will come to the intersection with Grid Road 641. Turn east on this road. Do not turn onto Highway 99. Follow this road up out of the valley and past the microwave station. Keep going about 5 miles north until you come to the Seed Cleaning Plant on the east side of the road. Watch for a Field Day sign here. Turn east on the grid road at this point and follow it for about 5 miles to take you to the site. (mileages are approximate)

PRESIDENTS REPORT

June 14, 2006 Science Center 7:30 pm will be our Club Monthly Meeting for June. Please come out give us your ideas and support, Meeting business has been moving at a good pace, while still giving everyone time to express their ideas. This has given more time at the end of our meeting for presentations by club members, as well as socializing with a good cup of coffee. Presentation this month will be Field Day Logging Software.

Our Burnside Clubhouse is in need of some paint and the
annual grass cutting.
Thanks to Allan Tidbal and Bob Wilks. They went out to Burnside and installed some "No Trespassing Signs". We could use all available help to maintain this structure. Bruce Rattray will be calling any volunteers to help with the yard on Saturday June 10 and or Saturday June 17.

We now have new liability insurance through R.A.C. Thanks to Allan Tidbal for spending a couple of days, locating the correct papers and filling in the information and running after signatures. Also thanks to Bruce Rattray for helping with the insurance project.

If you know anyone that is interested in advanced classes or beginner classes please forward their names to Allan Tidbal VE5RARA@gmail.com We will be holding classes in the fall.

See you at the General Meeting at the Science Center.

REPEATER NEWS

Plans are in the works to put up a wide area repeater at Good Spirit Lake, serving the Yorkton/Canora area. Tentatively it will be on 145.25/144.65 mHz and will be operational by fall. This is a project of the Parkland Amateur Radio Group. Their website is http://parc.sasktelwebsite.net

SILENT KEY

Once again we have to report a silent key in Regina. Jack Struthers, VE5FJ passed away on May 30th at the age of 76. He worked for the Department of Education for many years until his retirement.

LONG RANGE SOLAR FORECAST

While the next solar maximum should be a big one, Solar Cycle 25 peaking around 2022 could be one of the weakest in centuries. The Sun's Great Conveyor Belt has slowed to a record-low crawl, according to research by NASA solar physicist David Hathaway. "It's off the bottom of the charts," he says. "This has important repercussions for future solar activity." (So you had better get your 10 and 6 metre DXing done in Cycle 24 !) MASS AMATEUR RADIO SATELLITE LAUNCH

13 Amateur Radio Satellites will be launched at 19:39:11 UTC on the 28th June 2006 on a DNEPR-1LV rocket from the Kazakstan Baikonur Cosmodrome in what will be the largest ever deployment of Amateur Radio Satellites. The satellites will be put into a 500 by 566 km orbit with an inclination of 97 degrees. Each satellite is a 10cm cube weighing just 1kg into which is packed the battery, transmitter and the various experiments. Twelve of the satellites have downlinks in the Amateur Radio Satellite Service allocation between 435 and 438 MHz and one will operate on 145.950 MHz so they’ll be lots of signals to listen out for after launch. Further information on the Dnepr Launch 1 can be seen at: http://littonlab.atl.calpoly.edu/ -QRZ
